Job Responsibilities
  • Repairs and maintains major cable system and structures such as broken lashing, replacing, or re-sagging aerial strand, pole transfers, down-guys, aerial to underground conversion, substructure repairs and cable replacements related to system outages, maintenance, rebuilds and emergencies or hazards.
  • Reads and interprets work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in a sequence of the task.

The Fleet Manager position is a management position responsible for the direction of the work of automotive and equipment maintenance technicians that repair and maintain the company’s fleet vehicles and equipment ensuring the safety of all, in accordance with state, federal and DOT standards and regulations. Work involves monitoring and controlling repair facility activities, analyzing needs and problems, and directing budget management, inventory control, risk management and related areas. Work is performed under the direction of the Fleet Manager for Operations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage daily job responsibilities and workflow tasks by providing technical direction and hands-on support to shop mechanics, as needed, especially in complex or difficult situations.
  • Provide technical direction to technicians in complex or difficult situations.
  • Assist with scheduling repairs and ensuring preventative maintenance is completed, as needed, and within a timely manner.
  • Manage staffing of the maintenance shop (staff hours and over time (OT) with a goal to keep OT to a minimum) to ensure productive and cost-effective use of employee resources, interview fleet support candidates for hire, in conjunction with Fleet Manager approval.
  • Train new hires in accordance with company and department standards.
  • Dispatch technicians for road maintenance calls.
  • Audit work orders daily to make sure all parts, time charged for repair orders, and a detailed description of work performed have been reported correctly to close work orders. Input any third-party work orders (i.e., Tires, outside repairs, inspections, etc.) in fleet maintenance system software.
  • Review work in progress and completions for compliance with standards, safety, efficiency and required expectations.
  • Communicate updates on the status of repairs and any overages of projected completion dates with local managers and regional fleet director.
  • Make sound, cost effective decisions about repairs, parts and outsourcing of repairs for the company; monitoring and controlling expenditures.
  • Communication with the Regional Fleet director prior to outsourcing repairs (i.e., sending equipment to an outside shop or having a technician brought in).
  • Gather updates on equipment that has been outsourced for repairs monitoring and managing the status of repairs, costs associated with the same and the estimated time frame for resolution.
  • Project and plan for future maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Ensure all truck inspections are current at the shop.
  • Coordinate procurement of vendor and supplier materials and services and ensure that all vendors and suppliers are supplying us with our needs at a fair price. Report any issues and concerns to the Regional Fleet Director.
  • Maintain parts and supplies for the shop, enter inventory making sure cost is correct, order as necessary for repairs. Adjust inventory as needed to keep the correct parts in stock to minimize equipment down time.
  • Perform parts and fleet inventory audit quarterly.
  • Ensure coding of all shop invoices is accurate and turned in to Accounts Payable personnel.
  • Perform shop inventory audits – parts, fleet support vehicles, tools etc.
  • Ensure that all tags (state licensing, insurance and inspection documents and placards) are valid in the fleet and all inspections to company vehicles are done on-time and are current.
  • Perform random rides with mobile techs to ensure workflow on the road is efficient.
  • Stay up-to-date and informed with the changing FMCSA and DOT rules and regulations.
